Red de Mosselpot
When it became known that an Antwerp-based collector was considering sending Broodthaers' Grand Mussel Pot (1966) to auction in 2000, Jan Hoet, then director of the Stedelijk Museum voor Aktuele Kunst (SMAK) in Ghent, initiated a fundraising campaign to keep the artwork in Belgium. The collector agreed to forego auction if the SMAK could raise 10 million Belgian francs (about $225,000) before the end of the year.
