Reconsidering the Object of Art
The indispensable document of the history and idea of Conceptual Art, curated by Ann Goldstein and Anne Rorimer. Of note: Adrian Piper withdrew her work from the exhibition when it was announced that it would be partially sponsored by Phillip Morris. Having seen the show, our takeaway was that Conceptual Art came across as much more irreverent and entertaining that it had been taught to us in school. Which is to say: more Eleanor Antin and John Baldessari and less Lothar Baumgarten or Joseph Kosuth.
