Françoise Mairey: Substitution
Mairey's ingenious and mesmerizing portfolio of 43 loose sheets of textual shapes, patterns, rhythms, and textures all made on a manual typewriter, or, as she refers to it on the title page, a "writing machine." Indeed.
We have two versions, the deluxe (no. 3 of 20) that includes a unique, handmade typewriter drawing in black and red ribbon ink, and the regular version (no. 156 of 180). All three—the drawing, the deluxe, and the regular—are signed and dated by the artist.
